Looking Back At Essex Jobs

Posted by AnnaStenning in Career

Finding a job now is much more difficult than it perhaps was over a hundred years ago, with more people trying to gain employment in a specified profession. Those who have grown up in Essex are more likely to branch away from this county, in towards London and surrounding areas. Jobs in London tend to pay extra due to the outer London weighting and because it is a large city they will offer more diverse job opportunities.

The demand for Essex jobs have increased dramatically over the last five years, which made finding work much more difficult. There are more people involved in skilled trading rather than academic based employment. The rise in people opting for academia as opposed to skilled work has resulted in the rising increase in wages for people with skilled employment. Plumbers alone could earn around 60, 000 pounds, whereas a new graduate would be lucky if they found themselves work earning them a minimum of 20, 000 pounds, which will slowly increase each year.

This is not to say that working in a skilled trade is the way forward above academia, on the contrary working in the skilled trade will mean that the individual will have to work harder to maintain their client base and actively find work. Working in this field can give you the opportunity to become self-employed, freelance or work under an agency/employer. The latter will make it easier to find new clients and find work more regularly.

Essex jobs during the reign of Elizabeth I consisted mainly of the Bay and Say trading, better known as wool trading. The art of weaving was introduced by the Flemish people, which the monarch of the time encouraged to be taught across the county. This gave rise to more job opportunities, not just in trading, but also in creating new garments and materials. Clothing was distributed in the major towns such as Colchester, Braintree, Dedham, Coggeshall, Halsted and Bocking.

The major clothing towns were a significant advantage for many families, as it allowed employment in weaving, spinning, sewing and more. The garments were sought after by Royalty and the wealthy, making Essex a popular choice for trading and making money. Essex jobs at this point in time were plentiful in agriculture, garment production, goods trading and other skilled work. However, it would not be until the mid 1500’s to the 1700’s, that the production of gunpowder began to take precedence over the skilled trading work.

The production of gunpowder was the start of many changes to come in Essex, namely within the employment industry. Much of Essex jobs consisted of working within the gunpowder industry which became an extremely lucrative money making trade. By 1900 it had allocated 1200 jobs, with much of the production contributing towards much of the national requirements. This was furthermore successful soon after the introduction of the railway system.

The railway system and transportation links changed the face of employment, making it easier for people to transport goods to major cities quickly. Furthermore, Essex was also thriving in the production of silk and crepe, opening up 2000 jobs to people. This attracted furthermore monarchs in purchasing robes and expensive silk garments.

Modern day Essex is still abundant in skilled work, which includes clothing production, trading of goods and supplies, and constructions work. Much of these have progressed further into major corporate companies and industries. Most of Essex has become commercialised and much more diverse in employment opportunities, allowing more people to take the root into academia. However, they have over the years increased the earning potential for most first-time employees and trainees, through incorporating the skilled trade with corporate companies.

How To Write A Cover Letter For Flight Attendant Jobs

Posted by WMMedia in Career

Writing a cover letter for any job application can be a frustrating experience, but none more so that writing a cover letter for flight attendant jobs. This is because you want to give prospective employers a thorough look at your skills and qualifications. Since a cover letter is intended to be just a snapshot of what you can bring to the position, you often have difficulty deciding what to put in this cover letter and what to omit. You do have to do a good job of selling yourself to the prospective employer so that you will advance to the next step ?getting that all-important call to come in for an interview. You not only have to market your skills, but writing a cover letter to apply for a job as a flight attendant means that you have to demonstrate you have the personality needed to interact with passengers and crew.

Summarize your experience as a flight attendant in other jobs by simply telling the types of jobs you have had in this industry and your total number of experience in years. If you have held a leadership role in the past, make sure you include this in your cover letter because it will show the employer that you are interested in advancing in your career. This will give the employer a brief glimpse of your qualifications in this area of expertise.

Since flight attendants are required to have a high level of education in addition to the specific training needed for the job, you do have to include this information in your cover letter. If you have a university degree, you will have a better chance of being noticed than a person with a two-year course, for example. Therefore it is important for you to place your level of education front and center in your cover letter.

If you speak any foreign languages, you should list them in your cover letter. Since being bilingual in one of more languages is a skill most airlines are looking for in flight attendant applications, this will give you a foot in the door. When you do have the ability to converse in languages other than English, you will be a great prospect for a position as a flight attendant on overseas flights.

Your experience in customer service is almost as important as your education and skills when applying for a flight attendant job. You do not need to go into detail, but if you have dealt effectively with difficult passengers or if you have been on flights where passengers panicked because of problems, you should give a brief outline of these experiences in your cover letter. There is no doubt you will have a chance to elaborate further when you are called for an interview.

When you do apply for a flight attendant job, make sure you read the instructions included in the ad for the position. Some airlines will only accept applications that are emailed, so you do have to make sure you attach your resume and your cover letter to the message. You may have impeccable skills and qualifications, but if you don’t follow the directions, then your application will not even be considered.

Afraid To Take The Leap? Simple Ways To Face Down Your Fears

Posted by ChangingCourse in Career

The so-called safe path is always “easier.” Just ask Ursula Clay. Ursula tried to take the secure career path her immigrant parents had chosen for her. In fact, she worked incredibly hard to achieve a level of financial success and security her parents, both high school dropouts, never had. Says Ursula:

“I worked very hard to get through law school at night, all the while working full time and struggling financially. When I finally achieved what I thought was the brass ring - i.e., good salary, fancy title, etc. - it was a thoroughly disappointing revelation that this was the end result of all the hard work. It felt very empty and meaningless, further made so by the birth of my two beautiful children. I just felt as though I could not possibly have been put on this earth to toil way for 12 hour days at a job that kept me away from my family, and which I dreaded going to every day.”

“Unless you walk out into the unknown,” says Tom Peters, “the odds of making a profound difference in your life are pretty low.” After two years of executing her escape plan which included many moments of fear and uncertainty, Ursula is embracing the unknown. “It’s like getting out of college again, and having a clean slate. I do not know where I am going to end up, or what might come my way. In fact, staying home with my kids right now may be the next calling, and after that, who knows!”

Laugh in the Face of Fear

Anyone who has ever ventured out of their safe little world will tell you they had doubts. When it comes to making a major life change, not only is a certain amount of fear perfectly normal, it’s actually helpful. For example, it’s our healthy fears that keep us from jumping off cliffs. And the great thing about fear is that there are always ways to get around it.

So try laughing in the face of fear. Am I kidding? No. Ridiculing your fears is actually a very effective technique for banishing them. Let me show you what I mean.

If I told you the U.S. Senate had just voted to relocate the capital from Washington, D.C. to Las Vegas, your response would probably be something like, “No way!” That’s because the mind rejects that which it considers absurd. It’s the same with fear. The trick is to turn your fears into a ridiculous event in your mind. That way, you allow your natural human reaction to absurdity to take over and dismiss them.

Try it yourself. Take your biggest fear and take it to extremes. Really exaggerate it. Let’s say you’re paralyzed by the fear of failure. Try picturing your entire family, all of your friends, your neighbors, everyone you went to high school with, even your boss, standing outside your cardboard-box home holding up signs that read: We Told You So!

Pretty ridiculous, right? When you realize that your worst-case fantasy is just that — a fantasy — what felt overwhelming will now feel much more manageable.

Change Is Easy — When You Take It One Step at a Time

Another way to manage the fear of venturing out on your own is to start small. If the thought of just up and quitting your day job frightens you, start building your freelance career on the side. Begin with low-risk steps and gradually work your way up to the harder stuff.

You never know what is going to move you to action. It can be a book, something you saw on television, a chance conversation, a workshop.

Even though Ursula has taken the leap, she’s now working on the second part of her goal — coming up with ideas for multiple income streams. The good news is that having faced down her fears once means Ursula can approach her new goal from a far more desirable vantage point. “Now,” she says, “I can read the newsletter on my home computer in my sweatpants while my daughter naps, instead of on my Blackberry while riding the 8:02 pm train back to the suburbs from work.” And just to underscore how excited she is to be embarking on this new chapter in her life, Ursula signed off with, “Regards from the other side.”

Remember, courage is not a matter of losing your fear so you can take action; courage comes from taking action. And that, in turn, helps you overcome your fear. When you can act despite your fears, you will be rewarded many times over. That’s because, as Anais Nin once observed, “Life shrinks or expands according to one’s courage.” Once I found the courage to escape job jail my life expanded in ways I never imagined possible. Life really is better over here on the “other side.” I encourage you to take one small step today to join those of us are enjoying the view from the other side.

Educating Yourself For A Career In Affiliate Marketing

Posted by Lynmek in Career

Working in the field of affiliate marketing on the internet is the most rewarding thing that I have ever done. But, when you’re just new to the game, it can be tremendously confusing, very frustrating, and absolutely mind boggling! Education is the key here.

I would say that it literally took me 2 full years, loads of money, and many sleepless nights before I finally began to see really good financial returns for my efforts. I’ll bet that there are heaps of you out there who can relate to that!

When I first started out, some 10 years ago, good education regarding affiliate marketing either wasn’t around, or what was around cost you the shirt off your back! Fortunately, things have changed dramatically, to the stage where there is heaps of “stuff” out there to help you in your working from home affiliate marketing business.

Here’s a few “does” and “don’ts” for you.

There are heaps of free reports available, some with good content and advice, some not so good. If you do a Google search you will be able to find many of these free reports. Instinct should enable you to sift the good from the bad here.

If a free report wants you to click through to an educational program which is going to cost you anything from a couple of hundred bucks to 5 or 6 thousand bucks, then forget it, and delete the free report! Often, with these types of programs, the next thing that happens after you’ve paid your $200 or so, is that you’ll get a phone call from a so-called “mentor” who will offer to hold your hand and guide you step by step to earning $50,000 if only you’ll put yourself in hock on your credit card to the tune of around $20,000!!! Heard all of that at some stage or other, have you? My advice? Run 50 miles in the opposite direction as fast as you can!

Now, I’m not saying that there are no good mentors out there. There are heaps of great mentors around, but many of them will charge only a small amount, by comparison to the above, for their services.

There are some extremely good ebooks available, usually between 30 and 200 pages long, that you can pick up from around $5 right through to around $200. These are the only ones that I would bother with. They are written by people who are out there doing it in the world of affiliate marketing, and they’re happy to share their success tips - what’s working for them - with you for a reasonable fee.

The reason that there is a fee for these ebooks is very simple. Their authors want you to actually read them and implement the strategies they teach. They contend that if they give you the ebook free, then more than likely you’ll download it and never read it!! They see that as an absolute waste. Also, they’ve gone to the trouble of writing the helpful ebook - it’s fair enough that they should receive some financial recompense for that.

I recommend that you start off with some of the lower priced ebooks. I have bought several of them, and implemented the strategies taught in them. In all cases, without exception, following the strategies has lead to an increase in income for me.

Of course, not all of the strategies taught will suit you, and you may want to sift through what you’ve bought, and put into practice the ones that you feel comfortable with. That’s fine, but do understand that educating yourself in the world of affiliate marketing is necessary if you want to short circuit the road to success.

Working from home as an affiliate marketer is a fantastic lifestyle for those who are prepared to educate themselves for a reasonable cost, and for those who are prepared to seriously carry out in a determined and consistent manner the strategies being taught to them.

How A Recruitment Agency Can Find You That Dream Job

Posted by Prettyone in Career

Being unemployed is not an enjoyable experience, finding work can be difficult whilst remaining motivated and dedicated to finding employment can be a struggle. The temptation is too strong to simply switch on the television or pick up the games controller and waste the day entertaining yourself. For those who are in this boat the use of a recruitment agency is advisable, should work be found quickly and with a minimum of effort.

While a recruitment agency will save you time and effort, it is not the case that you will completely be able to cease your job hunting efforts. They are not there to act as your personal job hunter, in most cases they will only supply you with jobs that match your criteria as and when they arise. The first step is to travel down to the recruitment agency and submit your details to them. At this stage they will want to know the types of jobs you are looking for and the salary range you are expecting. This is why it is important to decide what types of jobs you want to work in before approaching the agency; they are not there to be a personal career advisor.

With so many industries out there it is unsurprising that a recruitment agency may decide to specialise in a particular industry. For instance, some agencies may only list jobs from the catering, travel and IT industries. This type of agency is perfect for those who know exactly the career path on which they wish to embark, providing directed job hunting and high levels of success.

As a job seeker however it is important to understand that positions will not always be available immediately. After visiting the agency they will add you to their database, this means that your name will only be brought up should a position arise that matches your criteria, if one does not however the wait for work can be weeks or even months. This is why when submitting your details it is important to be as broad minded as possible; this will increase your chances of finding work considerably.

That said there is little point in waiting at the end of line for the recruitment agency to call. It is important to remain proactive and badger the agency’s representatives as much as possible. By doing this you remain fresh in their minds and are more likely to receive job offers. While it may feel as if you are simply making a nuisance of yourself it is not a great problem, the representatives will understand your concerns and will most likely be impressed by your willingness to work.

More modern agencies have online services especially suited to job hunters. In many cases these allow job hunters to access the jobs and information directly from a website, meaning that being proactive is made that much easier. In addition however, using modern forms of communication to bombard the agency representatives can be useful in remaining fresh in their minds.

Using as many agencies as possible is always advisable; it will increase your chances of finding work considerably. That is not to say that once you have signed up to a recruitment agency you no longer have to look for work. Using agencies as a complimentary effort to your job hunting is the best advice, with dedication and motivation it should be possible to find the job of your dreams.

Career expert Thomas Pretty looks at recruitment agency services and how job hunters can make the most of them.
